After graduating from Oxford with First Class Honours Robert joined the Foreign Office and later HM Treasury. In 1970 he moved to the City, becoming Chairman of Lloyds Merchant Bank. In 1988 he was recruited by the Hong Kong Government to be the first Executive Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission. He has since served as the Deputy Chairman of Nomura (Asia) Holdings and as a director of the Dubai Financial Services Authority, Singapore Exchange, Citibank (Hong Kong), and the International Securities Consultancy. From 2005 until 2020 he was the Chairman of Repton International Schools.

Robert was the inspiration behind the first British branded school to arrive in the United Arab Emirates when he established Repton Dubai, an outstanding school which now even surpasses the results of its parent school in the UK. Working closely with Tony, Robert employed his extensive international business experience and helped to create solid partnerships built on trust, sound business ethics and a shared vision of bringing the best educational opportunities to thousands of children overseas
